The DonutSMP
black market.

Real listings, real prices, and an honest model of how much money moves through a Minecraft server's banned second economy.

The server bans real-money trading. The market prices it anyway.

DonutSMP's own terms forbid trading in-game items for real money, and the store runs through Tebex like any legitimate Minecraft shop. That ban is what creates the black market. The demand doesn't go away; it just moves to G2G, Eldorado, Odealo and Carousell, where the same billions get a dollar figure attached.

"The price is set by strangers on a resale site, not by the people who made the game."

Delivery is mundane: a seller meets you in-game and runs /pay or /tpa. Some listings require 24 hours of playtime before they'll hand anything over. The escrow, the ratings, the 34,000-order seller histories: all the infrastructure of a real exchange, wrapped around a currency that officially can't be sold.

What a billion costs.

Every listing below was live when captured. Sellers delist and relist constantly, so treat these as a snapshot.

The spread between the $30 floor and the $80 ceiling is the arbitrage: the same billion coins costs nearly three times as much depending on where you buy.

Market-cap model · estimates

How big is it, honestly?

Every figure below is an estimate. Three of the five inputs are assumptions, tagged as such.

Inputs

Peak avg concurrent
22,000
Monthly unique players assumption
50,000
RMT participation assumption
5%
Transactions / month
2,500
Average order value assumption
$25
Price peg
$50 / billion

Weakest input: monthly unique players. Everything downstream inherits that error.

Scenarios

Low$90,000/yr

500 transactions/mo @ $15 · $250k circulating notional

Mid$750,000/yr

2,500 transactions/mo @ $25 · $1M circulating notional

High$2,400,000/yr

5,000 transactions/mo @ $40 · $2.5M circulating notional

Known undercount: private Discord and crypto OTC deals are invisible to this model. Real volume is likely higher than the mid estimate, which is why the assumptions are listed rather than buried.
